LOMÉ, TOGO - Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to Kuikila Investments, Lda., an independent power developer in Mozambique. The grant supports a feasibility study for a 78-megawatt mobile, gas-fired thermal power plant in the Chokwé District of Mozambique's Gaza Province. Mozambique has the third-largest amount of proven natural gas reserves in Africa, and the sector presents tremendous export opportunities for U.S. industry. Kuikila selected Washington, D.C.-based Delphos International, Ltd., an independent financial services firm, to conduct the feasibility study. This project will meet Mozambique's power demand by developing and modernizing the country's generation and transmission infrastructure. "USTDA's support will enable Mozambique to get domestic gas-fired power projects online expeditiously," said USTDA's Acting Director Thomas R. Hardy. "At the same time, the project creates opportunities for a significant amount of U.S. equipment exports. We are pleased to cooperate on this important initiative." "Kuikila has been working with the Government of Mozambique for five years on various gas-fired thermal power plants supporting the country's development through reliable and affordable power," said Diogo Vaz Guedes, Chairman and CEO of Kuikila. "This grant represents an affirmation of our efforts. We are pleased to partner with USTDA and Delphos to accelerate the process of getting this project to financial close." Acting Director Hardy signed the grant along with Mr. Vaz Guedes at the African Growth and Opportunity Act Forum in Lomé, Togo. At the ceremony, USTDA also announced support for an upcoming reverse trade mission that will highlight U.S. technologies in "fast power" (e.g., mobile generation) projects for African delegates this fall. Philadelphia International Medicine and the Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia Announce Collaboration8/1/2017
Press Release: Philadelphia International Medicine News Bureau PHILADELPHIA, Pa., USA - Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) and Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia (SMeO) of Mexico City, Mexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a collaborative relationship in the areas of clinical and administrative training, physician exchanges, enhancing the continuum of care and other joint opportunities.
“PIM is looking forward to working with Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia to build a partnership based on knowledge sharing and innovation. This relationship will allow SMeO and PIM physicians to enhance interaction and continuing medical education, but ultimately can improve medical outcomes for patients in each community. We want to assist on the expansion of SMeO’s mission of advancing Mexico’s health care community by providing the opportunity to engage and establish relationships with PIM hospitals,” said Leonard Karp, President and CEO of Philadelphia International Medicine. PIM and SMeO agreed to build a health gateway that will create the means to share medical knowledge and technology while also working to improve accessibility to highly skilled care. This agreement will assist both parties in establishing a formal on-going relationship that over time will build a health gateway linking SMeO to PIM and its network. Through this gateway PIM will offer SMeO physicians with access to medical education, medical training, innovative uses of technology and coordinated comprehensive patient care. PIM agreed to lay the foundation by identifying specific opportunities and initiatives involving cooperative programs in research, education, training, clinical referrals, marketing and administration. This collaboration will facilitate a relationship between the SMeO and PIM health networks, its affiliated hospitals and members to provide a better understanding of each party’s culture, communities and norms. “We are glad to sign this collaboration agreement as it will increase our member’s access to US health systems in terms of an information exchange. This access to information will translate in a mutual growth of our communities. Additionally, our oncologists will get to know the latest advancements in PIM’s hospitals through the cultivation of close relationships with US physicians. This alliance will also open the possibility to refer patients and to obtain information that helps our physicians with the management of their patients. Lastly, our doctors have shown great interest in the training and educational programs offered through PIM," said Dr. Samuel Rivera Rivera, President of the Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia. The MOU specifically covers four areas of on-going continued education including live, video conference seminars through PIM’s Global Education Media (GEM) program, physician medical education through the Physician Partnership Program (PPP), physician and consultant visits through conferences, patient referrals and second opinions. Integration of the PIM and SMeO relationship will begin by implementing the GEM program, connecting SMeO physicians to PIM’s hospitals through interactive video seminars. In addition, physicians from SMeO will be eligible to participate in a global competitive scholarship program offered by PIM to its hospital partners around the world. Under the PPP program, practicing specialists will be chosen by PIM to visit the hospitals in the Philadelphia area, where they will be paired with a physician from PIM and participate as adjunct faculty in team meetings, rounds, and observation at clinics and surgery. The one-week program will offer SMeO physicians the opportunity to engage in an intensive peer-to-peer clinical development program while forming relationships with physicians and the community in Philadelphia, and other global participants. About Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia The SMeO is the national academic society of oncology in Mexico.
