BACKGROUND

• In 2016, India's aggregate demand for petroleum products increased by 10.9% from 2015. This growth is expected to increase as India's economy continues expanding
• The nation's largest refiner, Indian Oil Corp. Ltd, plans on investing $28 billion USD over the next 5-7 years to expand its refining capacity
• India ranks fourth globally in terms of its total refining capacity, behind the United States, China, and Russia
