Philadelphia International Medicine and the Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia Announce Collaboration
Organizations enhancing the continuum of care together with advanced training opportunities
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., USA - Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) and the Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia (SMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance knowledge sharing among physicians in Philadelphia and Mexico that can enhance the health of their communities through advanced physician continuing education.
PIM and SMC agreed to create a knowledge bridge by linking cardiologists who are members of SMC to PIM and its network, which includes Temple University Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center. This collaboration will provide SMC physicians with medical education, medical training, innovative uses of medical technology, and coordinated comprehensive patient care.
Under the terms of this agreement, Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia and Philadelphia International Medicine will focus on sharing medical knowledge and technology while also working to improve accessibility to highly skilled, continuing medical education and physician training while improving each party’s medical capabilities, research and patient care.
“It is an honor for the Mexican Society of Cardiology to collaborate with Philadelphia International Medicine. This new participation aims to bring both institutions closer together so that physicians from both organizations can receive a bi-directional benefit. This close relationship to the hospitals of Philadelphia International Medicine is intended to support the community and the teaching of medicine in our health system with cutting-edge technology and practices. No doubt the benefit will be mutual, taking the best of both worlds into one,” said Dr. Erick Alexanderson, Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia President.
The MOU specifically covers four areas of on-going continuing education including live, video conference seminars through PIM’s Global Education Media (GEM) program, physician medical education through the Physician Partnership Program (PPP), physician and consultant visits through conferences, patient referrals and second opinions.
“We look forward to this collaborative, continuous relationship with Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia. This opportunity allows PIM hospitals to engage and establish relationships with Mexico’s health care community expanding on their teaching mission. SMC physicians and PIM physicians sharing innovations and best practices will enhance both organizations in regards to medical education and the continuation of care for both communities,” said Leonard Karp, President and CEO of Philadelphia International Medicine.
Integration of the PIM and SMC relationship will begin by implementing the GEM program, connecting SMC physicians to PIM’s networked hospitals through interactive video seminars. In addition, the SMC cardiologists are scheduled to visit and observe the hospitals in the Philadelphia, where they will be paired with a mentor in early fall through the PPP program. Through the PPP program, SMC physicians will engage in a one-week intensive peer-to-peer clinical development program while forming relationships with physicians and the community in Philadelphia. The agreement also encourages PIM cardiologists to participate in the National Conference of Cardiology that will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, hosted by SMC this November.
