India Event Provides Insights on Energy, Air, and Water
On August 5, the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia (WTCGP) in conjunction with Temple University CIBER Fox School of Business hosted the Energy & Water: Innovation and Opportunity in India seminar. The event was held at Temple’s Center City campus, and boasted a full audience of graduate students and business professionals.
The speakers covered a variety of topics including insight into India’s energy and water sectors, air quality control, prospects for solar energy, and sustainability in the waste water sector. Participants in the seminar also gained an understanding of the current opportunities and realities of doing business in India.
Dr. Sandip Shah discussed the promising opportunities for manufactured control devices in an effort to monitor air quality. Dr. Arun Deb discussed the huge potential market for a twenty-four hour water supply with efficient management. Participants gained a better understanding of encouraging solar and wind prospects thanks to Mr. Umesh Choori’s expertise. The closing speaker, Ms. Valerie Demont, offered advice on general business practices in India and stressed the importance of personal relationships and the challenges of due diligence. Attendees seemed to especially value the expert advice and the opportunity to network before and after the presentations.
This was the third of four seminars that are part of the India Exchange Network, a series of workshops focused on doing business in India. The seminars will culminate in a trade mission to India in January, as part of the WTCGP’s Export for Scholars Program.

Date founded: 2000
Number of employees: 10
Website:www.safesorb.com
DiSorb Systems, Inc. manufactures innovative waste management products for the healthcare industry. The primary application of their products is to solidify and treat the contents of suction canisters, but they are also used to solidify spills. Mr. Ted McLaughlin, President of Disorb Systems, Inc. stated, “The WTCGP has provided me with immeasurable assistance in developing international business for my company. They made it possible for me to cost effectively attend the Medica 2009 trade show and helped me receive a PA Market Access Grant (MAG), which allowed me to attend the First European Medical Waste Conference in Amsterdam in February 2010.”
