Drexel MBA Students Complement a Trade Mission to Shanghai and Beijing
In the spirit of creating increased competitiveness for our region, the WTCGP, in collaboration with Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, conducted a trade mission to Shanghai and Beijing in March of this year. Four of our client companies accepted the opportunity to benefit from this valuable partnership and 23 students experienced a once-in-a-lifetime chance to expand their understanding of international business.
The “Export for Scholars” collaboration, fresh off the heels of an outstanding mission to Malaysia and Hong Kong, not only enhanced the MBA curriculum but also benefited our client companies through highly tailored market intelligence reports prepared by the talented LeBow students. Mark DeHarde, President of Ultraflex Systems, Inc. said of the students’ participation, “[They were] very fun and stimulating. Their energy and perspective adds a lot to the mission.” In addition to the coordination of match making meetings in China, the WTCGP also arranged for a variety of visits to US based companies conducting business in China. Such visits included UPS, Boeing, IBM and LCR Electronics and provided the students with live case studies on cultural adaptation and global operations. In total our client companies participated in 38 one-on-one meetings with potential trading partners; as icing on the cake, several of our trade mission participants have continued to build on these meetings by developing the ever important relationships necessary for success in the China market.
Lest you think the Export for Scholars program is all work and no play, the students and company participant s had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of cultural activities. Among the most memorable of these activities was a day trip to an undulating section of the Great Wall where it snaked its way across the Yanshan mountain range which protects the northern side of Beijing.
