WTCGP Members Meet With Ambassador Of The Kingdom Of Bahrain
On Tuesday, June 9th, members of the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia participated in a private reception and luncheon briefing with H.E. Houda Ezra Nonoo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States. The event, which was co-sponsored by the WTCGP and the Global Interdependence Center, focused on the US-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement that was signed in 2004 and Bahrain’s position as a finance center in the Gulf region.
Ambassador Nonoo presented on the opportunities in Bahrain and the country’s long-term goal of economic diversification to reduce its dependence on oil revenue. She highlighted both the financial and alternative energy industries as key sectors for U.S. companies and emphasized the favorable business and investment climate that allows foreign companies to establish regional offices, distribution centers and manufacturing operations in country. The Ambassador also emphasized the availability of a skilled workforce in Bahrain.
Following the luncheon, Ambassador Nonoo met privately with Anthony Bartolomeo, chairman of the WTCGP’s Board of Directors and president of Pennoni Associates, and Linda M. Conlin, president, WTCGP, to discuss and offer the services of the WTCGP’s International Design and Engineering Consortium (IDEC). The IDEC provides a global platform for experienced architecture, engineering, construction, and project management companies to collaborate on international projects. She also met with Leonard Karp, president and CEO of Philadelphia International Medicine LLC (PIM), to discuss specific opportunities for investment. PIM is a healthcare organization that brings together the services of six prestigious Philadelphia area hospitals to the international community through patient care, medical education, and hospital management and development. PIM will continue further discussions of the linkages between Philadelphia's hospital community and that of Bahrain. “The WTCGP is to be commended for helping establish a bridgehead for future medical training and patient care exchanges," said Karp.
