The Dunmore Corporation, a corporate member of the WTCGP, is headquartered in Bristol, PA and offers metallized, coated, and laminated films, as well as contract manufacturing in a number of industry sectors. Dunmore has made a strong commitment to the development of the solar power industry. As part of its strategic expansion into new international markets, the company has focused on increasing its presence in China, a world leader in the solar cell sector.
In December 2008, with the assistance of the WTCGP and the PA Authorized Trade Representative (ATR) in Shanghai, top managers from Dunmore met with nine companies in China. In addition to meeting support for Dunmore, the PA ATR provided contract counseling and suggested other cooperative initiatives for the company. Mr. Lee Smith, technical sales manager, says of their experience: “We are extremely appreciative and pleased with their [the WTCGP and PA ATR] efforts. We have already begun our follow-up and are looking forward to a return trip.”
On January 1, 2009, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the U.S. and Oman, which was signed on December 29, 2008, took effect. With the agreement, all trade involving consumer and industrial products between the two countries will be duty free. This FTA provides market opportunities for U.S. manufacturers in the following industries: automotive, optic and medical instruments, exports of machinery, and agricultural goods.
“The agreement … marks a milestone in strengthening ties and promoting freedom in the Middle East and it is an important step in advancing … [the] Middle East Free Trade Area (MEFTA),” says U.S. Trade Representative, Susan C. Schwab. The Oman FTA brings the U.S. one step closer to significantly opening the Middle Eastern market - an area with nearly 330 million people and a potential $158 billion consumer market. Countries in the region that currently have FTAs with the U.S. include Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Bahrain.
