June 8, 2005: WTCGP Guests Join Worldwide Celebration The World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia (WTCGP) is set to mark World Trade Centers Day on Wednesday, June 8, with a dinner celebration at the Wyndham Philadelphia at Franklin Plaza. US Faces New Export Challenges with Some of its Major Trading Partners Despite the growing number of countries that are members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), controversy continues to dominate the international trade environment. Retaliatory tariffs are being levied by the EU and Canada against US producers of steel, ball bearings, honey and candles which have received over $1billion in compensation for dumping. In China, tight procurement policies are being threatened on government purchases of software, creating increased trade friction between Washington and Beijing.

Over 40 people were in attendance at the "Mexican Market Update" seminar sponsored jointly by the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia and the CCEDC International Business Council. Ms. Silvia Alonso, Mexico's Trade Specialist from the Pennsylvania Office of International and Business Development, discussed market opportunities, cultural differences, and the support her office can provide to companies in this region. WTCGP President featured in Philadelphia Business Journal Joanna Savvides, WTCGP President, was featured in the CEO File section of the April 29 – May 5, 2005 Philadelphia Business Journal. Savvides was quoted as saying the best way to keep a competitive edge is to “know your competition and differentiate yourself by focusing on your niche or core mission.” In terms of essential business philosophy, she stated, “There is no limit to learning, adapting and implementing improvements. The best results are delivered by empowering your staff.” Doors Opened in Romania for WTCGP Member, Global Trading Partners Carole and Bill Boyer, principals of Global Trading Partners, Camden, New Jersey, recently met with Dana Seiciu, Director of the World Trade Center in Bucharest, Romania.
