The WTCGP Internship Program introduces students to the various aspects of international business. Our interns are called upon to assist with market research, planning and implementation of educational events, and administrative work. An important and highly beneficial opportunity is their participation in client calls. By accompanying WTCGP international trade specialists on company visits, interns can experience first-hand the planning and commitment needed for successful international trade.
Larissa Cariello from Rowan University and Melissa Swallow from Temple University have worked for the WTCGP during the three-months period of September through December 2005. They exhibited tremendous enthusiasm and competence in performing their assigned tasks.
Larissa’s interest and training in marketing really came to light in one particular market research assignment for a client company interested in entering the Russian market. Larissa wrote profiles on Russian distributors and developed a questionnaire for qualifying potential
partners for our member company. In another significant project, she synthesized county export data for our reporting to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania—an exercise that quantifies the contributions we make as an organization to the regional economy.
Melissa’s most notable project involved research for a client company into German import regulations and industry specific exhibitions in Germany. She also compiled a market research report on Italy which included information on such topics as: economic overview, U.S.-Italy trade statistics, import
and tariff barriers, and other data needed when considering exporting to Italy.
It is through market research projects such as this that the WTCGP provides added value to the companies we serve—and our interns are central to this service.
We value highly the energy and enthusiasm of Larissa and Melissa, as well as that of Michael Killion, Jr. from Temple University and Allen Nash from Drexel University who will continue their internships at our organization through 2006. You really made a difference!
Do not miss Larissa Cariello’s essay about her experience in the WTCGP in our next WorldLinks (to be published January 12, 2006). Back
