FEATURED STORY

Regional Ports Come Together for WTCGP
State of the Port Address and Luncheon

This year the overall message was extremely positive despite several hot button topics, such as the question of dredging the Delaware River to deepen the navigational channel to meet modern shipping requirements and the need to address overcrowded airport runways and the

subsequent air traffic delays. In a post 9/11 world security has also become a major issue and all of the port authorities have enhanced and continue to enhance their overall security profile.

The ports of the region are a critical link for moving people, goods and services across a region where 28 million people live within 100 miles of the cities of Philadelphia and Camden.  The ports of Philadelphia act as a major gateway for commerce and trade, thereby producing a multi-billion dollar impact on the regional economy by way of jobs created, both direct and indirect, and by way of increased tax revenues.

Around the globe, World Trade Centers traditionally work closely with the port communities where they are located.  This is true locally as well.  The WTCGP understands the symbiotic relationship that exists between the region’s ports and the tremendous impact they have on our regional economy.  This is why each year the WTCGP invites the area’s four major ports to give a brief update on their business activities and the outlook for development in the region. The WTCGP clearly supports increased trade through the regional ports. Our organization brings the ports together because it recognizes that the Greater Philadelphia region’s infrastructure is one of its greatest strengths.

“The State of the Port Luncheon Address & Luncheon has become a signature event in our region and the business community looks forward to attending it every year,” said Joanna Savvides, President of the WTCGP.  “We are very proud to be the organizing force behind such a successful and informative event.”

This year’s luncheon sponsors were:

***Gold Sponsor: Camden Iron and Metal***
***Silver Sponsor: Pilots’ Association for the Bay and River Delaware***

***Silver Sponsor: South Jersey Port Corporation***
