On June 1, 2006, the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia celebrated Annual World Trade Centers Day with a dinner attended by almost 300 WTCGP members, clients, supporters & friends. At this event, the WTCGP honored Frank Baldino, Jr., Ph.D., Chairman & CEO of Cephalon Inc., for his contributions to regional economic development, and recognized our two Business Members of the Year: Devon International Group from Pennsylvania and PortaScience Inc. from New Jersey.

Total April exports amounted to $115.65 billion while imports were valued at $179.08 for the same month. The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released these statistics on Friday, June 9 in “U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services – April 2006.” In April, a $0.28 billion decrease in exports and a $1.28 billion increase in imports resulted in a goods and services deficit of $63.43 billion, $1.56 higher than in March 2006.

In April 2006, total Pennsylvania and New Jersey goods exports amounted to $4.84 billion, or almost 5.83% of total U.S. exports. As a result, New Jersey ($2.55 billion) ranked 9th and Pennsylvania ($2.30 billion) ranked 10th among top U.S. goods exporting states. The top 8 states were as follows: California ($10.81 billion), Texas ($9.71 billion), Michigan ($4.68 billion), New York ($4.45 billion), Illinois ($4.13 billion), Washington ($4.00 billion), Ohio ($2.96 billion) and Florida ($2.93 billion).
