Trade Mission to the Dominican Republic Completed
The WTCGP completed an extremely successful trade mission to the Dominican Republic on June 22, 2007. The WTCGP’s manager of Latin American Trade Development Program, Dr. Brigg Lopez Martinez, and its CFO, Bruce Pansius, led a group of 14 people, representing ten companies to the one of fastest growing economies in Latin America. The DR economy experienced an expansion of 10.7% in 2006 with imports totaling $11 billion. Sectors with the greatest potential for US exporters include building products, printing, food processing, computers, automotive parts, hotel and restaurant equipment, medical equipment, refrigeration equipment, agribusiness and tourism.

The June 21-24 European, Middle-East and African Regional WTC Meeting in Cologne attracted over 300 delegates from more than 50 WTCs, making it the most well-attended regional meeting ever. WTC Cologne President Dietmar Goetz hosted the meeting. Participants included a number of delegates from outside the region including Jean Marie Marchetto, COO from WTC Greater Philadelphia, and representatives of other World Trade Centers, such as Halifax, Mumbai, Charleston, Dulles Airport and Milwaukee.

WTCGP CEOs' China Operations Club Summer Social

Rain did not dampen the WTCGP China Operations Club members’ spirits at the fourth annual Summer Social. As an anticipated event each year, the China Operations Club held its informal networking event on July 11, 2007. WTCGP President Joanna Savvides welcomed members and guests and encouraged everyone to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn from each other’s China experiences at the social and throughout the year.

New Jersey and Pennsylvania goods exports totaled $5.12 billion in May 2007. New Jersey accounted for 51.6% or $2.64 billion of that amount, with the state retaining its rank as the ninth largest exporting state. Pennsylvania, with exports of $2.48 billion, ranked tenth. Manufactured items constituted the majority of exports from both states: 87.4% in Pennsylvania and 74.4% in New Jersey. Total New Jersey exports of goods in the first five months of 2007 were valued at $12.50 billion. Pennsylvania with exports worth $11.77 billion in the same period lags its eastern neighbor.
July has brought some staff changes to the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia. We reluctantly bid farewell to one of our hardest-working employees, Victoria Delvizis, business development and events coordinator. At the same time, the WTCGP welcomed Emily Olson as WTCGP’s newly created position of office manager.
