On May 17, 2007, Edward G. Rendell, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, delivered much awaited news to the regional international business community – the Delaware River Channel Deepening Project is to move forward. After 17 months of political standoff between PA and NJ, the states reached an agreement to deepen the channel from 40 to 45 feet. Under the agreement, Pennsylvania will bear the financial burden of dredging and provide the local share of $118 million to complete this project over the course of 12-15 years. The deeper channel is meant to keep the area ports from becoming obsolete. The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) was announced as the new local sponsor of the project, replacing the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA). The WTCGP would like to invite our CEOs’ China Operations Club members to join us on June 12, 2007 at the PRPA to learn first hand the benefits of the Delaware River Channel Deepening Project and its impact on the local international business community.
