New Opportunities for Trade in European Markets
Originally the Regional Meeting was used to exchange information and knowledge among the participating World Trade Centers. They wanted to strengthen their market position and institute successful business models for WTCs within their region. Now, in addition to those meetings, a program for businesses interested in global trade is planned. Companies participating in the Regional Meeting will have time for one-on-one appointments with pre-qualified trading partners and networking opportunities with World Trade Center representatives from around the world.
This opportunity offers companies participating in or interested in our Emerging European Markets Program the option of establishing business contacts with entrepreneurs and decision makers from the region.
This emerging markets program focuses on the developing economies of Europe, with particular attention to countries newly admitted and those awaiting admission to the European Union. The newly expanded Europe will become the world’s largest trading bloc with a population exceeding 450 million, more than the US, Canada and Mexico combined. EU accession has forced radical changes in their social, legal, corporate, financial and environmental standards. The newest EU members have embraced privatization, competition and openness in a dynamic market-oriented environment. These economies will participate in standards set by the EU and will adopt its single currency, the Euro, both of which benefit international commerce. With the current exchange rate at US$1.34 to the Euro, US companies have an increased competitive advantage selling into these markets. With the WTCGP’s support, companies in the five-county Greater Philadelphia region will be better equipped to develop their export potential in Eastern and Central Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
Last year, as part of the Emerging Markets program, the WTCGP planned a trade mission to Turkey. This year, following immediately after the WTC meeting in Germany is our next trade mission for the program. Our mission “Discovering Business in Greece and Cyprus” will begin in Athens on June 23 and take us through a business and cultural exploration of both Greece and Cyprus and return on July 1. In the fall we are planning another mission to Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
