Free Trade Agreement with Korea Concluded

The Republic of Korea was the seventh largest export market for U.S. products in 2006. The United States exported goods for a total of $32.46 billion to Korea last year, or 3.1% of total U.S. exports. During the same time period, imports from Korea amounted to $45.83 billion, bringing to annual trade deficit between our two countries to $13.37 billion.

Under KORUS FTA, nearly 95% of all tariffs will be eliminated within the first three years, with most remaining tariffs eliminated within 10 years. The new agreement is expected to create new export opportunities for U.S. farmers and ranchers at one of the previously most protected agricultural markets in the world. The KORUS FTA will ensure that U.S. investors have the same protection as Korean and expand market access and investment opportunities in a number of service sectors, including telecommunications and e-commerce.

The World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia (the Regional Representative for the State of Pennsylvania's Office of International Business Development) is pleased to announce that on May 10, 2007 Pennsylvania Authorized Trade Representative for Korea will meet one-on-one with Pennsylvania companies that want to export products and services to his region.
