January 2007 WTCGP Events at a Glance

Even seasoned business travelers found something to take away from the WTCGP Quarterly Briefing "Business Travel Safety and Security" on January 11, 2007. Francis X. Gallagher, Publisher & CEO of Global Traveler magazine, shared basic but often overlooked travel safety tips. "Acquire some local currency before your trip, so that you look in command upon arrival at the airport," "Use a code word not your last name with the car service," to name but a few. Doug Patterson, President, Personnel Touch International and Domestic Insurance Brokers, Inc., emphasized the importance of having international medical insurance for the whole duration of your overseas stay, because domestic medical insurance carriers are not designed to work well overseas. The seminar audience was surprised to learn how affordable these coverage options are. James L. Schuler of the U.S. Department of State outlined the emergency and non-emergency services provided by the U.S. government to its citizens abroad. He referred the audience to www.travel.state.gov, the website of the U.S. Department of State which regularly publishes consular information sheets, public announcements, travel warnings, warden messages and country fact sheets. (The WTCGP would like to thank seminar this event's sponsors: Global Traveler Magazine; Personnel Touch International and Domestic Insurance Brokers, Inc.; and Saint Joseph's University.)
On January 19, 2006, Larry Farris, Commercial Counselor, US Embassy in Bogota, Colombia and Brigg Lopez-Martinez, Latin American Trade Development Manager, WTCGP met with companies interested in doing business in Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay. Seventeen executives who attended the WTCGP South America Market Briefing learned about best business practices, as well as the great business opportunity that this region offers to our region’s companies. "Profitability comes with proactive steps to new and emerging markets," stated Brigg Lopez Martine, when asked about the upcoming WTCGP trade mission to Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay. The mission, which is due to depart on the 3-country business in three weeks, has a well structured agenda of one-on-one meetings, networking events and meetings with foreign business and government executives, and is expected to result in new business for participating companies.
The WTCGP partnered with the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey on January 25, 2007 for “Doing Business Globally.” This seminar focused on the legal, financial, human resource management and logistical issues facing any company thinking about or already doing business globally. Joanna Savvides, President, World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia was the event’s keynote speaker.
