WTCGP Helps Global Expand its Scope
Client Profile

Global Equipment and Machinery Sales, Inc. (Global) is an international supplier of used processing machinery for the pulp, paper and converting industries. Global buys and sells in the range from a single machine, like a core cutter, up to complete operating mills for the production of paper. Global’s sales force, buttressed by decades of experience in the field, generates between five and ten million dollars of revenue annually, with 60% coming from outside the U.S. The proportion of foreign sales continues to grow as pulp and paper production increasingly move outside of the U.S.

The Experience

Since 2002, Global has utilized the myriad abilities of the World Trade Center to get its message out. When its salesmen travel, in Europe, Latin America and Asia, they appreciate the availability of local World Trade Center facilities that can accommodate their business needs and expedite the sales process. Now, aided by events like the 2004 ABTCP in Brazil, the country’s annual trade show for the pulp and paper industries that Global attended with the help of a Market Access Grant provided under the aegis of the WTCGP, the company managed to greatly expand its scope. It recently leveraged the contacts made at ABTCP into a million dollar sale of equipment that was purchased from a Brazilian company, then stored in Texas, and sold to an Australian concern. Global also gained a million plus dollar sale in Bangladesh with the assistance from the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia, the State of Pennsylvania and the US Department of Commerce. All these trade development organizations helped to facilitate a customer’s trip to the US for an inspection visit. In addition, the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia also represented Global Equipment in business meetings with potential customers at the 2005 WTC General Assembly in Mumbai, India. The WTCGP is committed to further assist the company in its international endeavors.
